12th Grade Checklist
- Visit with your counselor for your Plan for College and Career Readiness meeting
- Continue with community service and leadership positions
- Log your service hours with the Career Center to letter in service
- Keep your GPA up
- Take the YouScience Aptitude test
- Take classes that help you explore your interests
- Weekly, look for upcoming scholarship opportunities on our Scholarship Page
- Take the ACT again, or now if you haven’t already. Register online at www.actstudent.org (Fee waivers available if you qualify)
- Start collecting letters of recommendation and writing essays for college and scholarship applications
- Keep a calendar of important deadlines for college admission and financial aid.
- Plan to attend financial aid meetings offered in your area.
- Apply for a Federal Student Aid(FSA) ID at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch?continueTo=fafsa so you can e-sign the FAFSA for faster processing. Have one of your parents do the same.
- Beginning October 1st, file your FAFSA online at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- Participate in Utah College Application Week
- Regents’ Scholarship application available mid-November
- Submit college applications by priority deadlines for Academic/Merit Scholarships
- Fill out the Opportunity Scholarship Application by the December priority deadline
- Triple check your application and contact the Opportunity Scholarship Office if you have any questions
- Be sure to check your student portal to check the status of your application.

- Apply for admissions scholarships such as diversity, alumni, needs-based, involvement, and ambassador scholarships.
- Apply for departmental scholarships if you know what you want to major in. Check the University/College websites to find these or see your counselor for help.
- Confirm receipt of your FAFSA and Admission application with your colleges.
- Continue to apply for scholarships (March and April are big scholarship months)
- Be sure to accept scholarships and admissions offers by their deadlines (or you could lose them!)
- May 1st is National College Decision Day
- If deferring admissions for whatever reason, contact the admissions office at the colleges you have applied to and complete the deferment process
